Wábi is committed to diversity, inclusion, art education and sustainability in the arts.

Vision

Wábi is exposing emerging and established artists to the New Haven community and beyond while mentoring young creative minds in the arts. Wábi will make art creation and appreciation more accessible to our diverse community, particularly for people of color, by providing a supportive and creative space to use for professional exhibitions, educational programming, co-creativity space, and virtual programming.

Mentoring Program

Wábi is offering a one year fellowship in Photography based in New Haven and virtually online this coming 2021/2022 academic year. The program will target teens and young adults from 14-19 years old who demonstrate a true interest in a career as a fine art or commercial photographer. The fellowship will focus on technical skills in photography, the history of photography, exposure to contemporary photographers, portfolios and a final exhibition. The gallery will provide professional training and development by a highly qualified and established professional Photographer and teacher, Kim Weston. Each Fellow will benefit from Weston’s extensive education, experience and network of professional artists and teachers both locally and nation wide. At the completion of the program, each Fellow will have a professional group exhibition and an extensive portfolio to continue a career in the photography.

Artist Representation

Wábi is currently under renovations. All artists and programs will take place online or at a temporary venue TBA later. Currently artists are being invited to join the gallery virtually until the physical gallery is complete in 2022. Artist are asked to support the gallery by allowing Wábi to showcase their work and use our platform to share their vision with our students and community at large. We seek to have a shared space , virtual and in-person where artists extend themselves to be mentors to each other and to young artists seeking additional support and knowledge.
