Early on in my career, I made images of my family members, neighbors, and coworkers: first generation immigrants and the working class. I used photography to magnify their presence in the world. I have recently begun moving beyond the single image approach of picture making to create 3-dimensional sculptures, large-scale photomontages, and mixed media installations.
I works with my own photographs, family heirlooms, memorabilia, and archives and places them directly on or among discarded wood, ceramic tile, and other construction materials to express my personal life experience. By revealing my own personal history, I aim to remind my viewer that the natural world is free from politics, and if we preserve our own legacy, we have control of our history.
